Portree Community Library, The Highland Council
This School/Public Library is part of the Councils PPP2 2007/8 development program. In partnership with the fitout contractor Library Services Scotland designed this new build facility providing space for the school users as well as the community.
A community library was designed with a ground floor and Mezzanine level. On the Mezzanine level security was required for the historic music collection which supports the schools higher music course, and an exhibition area to maintain the culture of the previous library including a reference space for the study of genealogy. On the ground floor the reserve collection for the mobile library and area libraries was accommodated in the F2000 shelving specification.
